Istanbul or Seoul: How the Two Capitals of Medical Travel Compare
Two very different systems produce world-class results. Which one fits you depends on your procedure, budget, and how you want to be cared for.
Istanbul and Seoul dominate conversations about surgery abroad for good reason — both cities have deep surgical talent, modern hospitals, and infrastructure built around international patients. But they are very different experiences.
Where each city excels
Istanbul built its reputation on hair restoration and has expanded into strong rhinoplasty, body contouring, and dental work. Its advantages are price and packaging: all-inclusive offers that bundle surgery, hotel, and transfers are the norm, and English-speaking patient coordinators are everywhere.
Seoul is the world's most concentrated market for facial procedures — rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facial contouring — with a culture of subtle, structural technique. Prices are higher than Istanbul but typically below the US and Western Europe. The system is precise, fast-moving, and less package-oriented; you'll navigate a more clinical process.
What to watch for in each
In Istanbul, the volume that makes prices low also produces factory-style clinics. The key question is always: who is my surgeon, and how much of the procedure do they personally perform? Turkey has outstanding, internationally trained surgeons — the work is finding them among the volume operators.
In Seoul, the main friction is communication. Clinics vary widely in how well they support foreign patients after they fly home. Confirm in writing how remote follow-ups work and who your contact is if something concerns you at week six.
The honest answer
There is no "better" city — there is a better city for your procedure and your tolerance for logistics. Facial work with maximum finesse points toward Seoul; hair restoration and value-driven packages point toward Istanbul; both require the same diligence on the individual surgeon.
That diligence is our job. Every surgeon in our founding cohort — in either city — is vetted in person before we make an introduction.
