Hair Transplants in Turkey: An Honest Field Guide
Turkey performs more hair restoration than anywhere on earth. Here's how to tell the artistry from the assembly line.
Istanbul is the global capital of hair restoration. That concentration created real excellence — and a volume industry where your "surgeon" may be a technician you never meet. Both realities are true at once, and the price difference between them is smaller than you'd hope.
FUE, DHI, and what actually matters
Most clinics offer FUE (follicular unit extraction) or DHI (a variant using implanter pens). Marketing aside, the technique matters less than three things:
- Who designs your hairline — this is aesthetic judgment, and it should be a physician who has examined you, not a template.
- Who performs the extractions and implantation — ask what the doctor personally does versus technicians, and get it in writing.
- Graft honesty — a realistic plan respects your donor area. Clinics promising unusually high graft counts in one session are often overharvesting, which you will regret in ten years.
Reading a clinic honestly
Strong signals: a physician-led consultation before any payment; healed results at 12+ months (not day-30 photos); a written plan with graft count, zones, and staged expectations; a real policy for touch-ups.
Warning signs: guaranteed results, "unlimited grafts," heavy discounting for booking today, and coordinators who dodge the question of who holds the punch.
What recovery involves
The procedure is long (often 6–8 hours) but recovery is light compared to surgery under general anesthesia. Plan 3–4 nights in Istanbul. Then patience: shedding at week 3–5 is normal, visible growth starts around month 4, and honest judgment of the result belongs at month 12.
Our approach
Hair restoration will be one of the first specialties in our founding cohort precisely because the market is so hard to read from the outside. Every clinic we admit is visited in person, and the physician's role in your procedure is documented before we introduce you.
